The government of Japan approved a financial aid package for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as self-employed workers affected by COVID-19. The measures include low-interest loans, governmental guarantees, subsidies and immediate financial support.

Subsidies offered include the payment of two-thirds (large companies) or four-fifth (small and medium-sized companies) of the employees’ salary capped at JPY 8,330 (approx. 70 Euro) per employee and per day on which the employee is instructed to stay at home due to business suspension if an employer’s sales are down at least 5% for one month or more compared to the same period in the preceding year.
